CFB Trenton is operated as an air force base by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). It is the hub for air transportation operations in Canada and abroad.  It's primary lodger is 8 Wing, commonly known as and referred to as 8 Wing Trenton and one of the largest Air bases in Canada.

In 1929, the property was 960 acres of farmland near Trenton that the federal government purchased to establish Royal Canadian Force (RCAF) station.  Official the based opened in August 1931.   Trenton was intended to be as a smaller supporting base to RCAF Station Borden, which was the home of Canadian Military aviation and a major training base at the time.

By June 1937 it had replaced Camp Borden as the primary flying training centre; the older station was given over increasingly to technical and trades training.

It made and was chosen for being a good middle point Between Ottawa and Toronto.

CFB Trenton offers its military families a resource center (MFRC/CRFM Trenton) that provides many services including:  Family Services, Mental Health, Education & Employment, Deployment, Housing and Veterans& Family  programs to help their military families settle in to the community a little easier.

CFB Trenton also has 2 schools located right in the middle of their housing communities:  Breadner Elementary and a full French school Ecole Elementaire Catholique L'Evol right on the base.
